In Nepal, the tradition is known as Mithila art; in India, closely related practice is often called Madhubani painting, centred in Madhubani, Bihar. Our artists prepare surfaces, outline stories with natural pigments, layer colour, and finish each piece by hand — whether on paper, fabric, or object.
Handmade paper, prepared fabric, or canvas is sized. Motifs are lightly drawn in natural ink or charcoal.
Fine contour lines define figures, lotus, fish, and borders — the visual grammar of Janakpur and Madhubani schools.
Pigments from minerals, plants, and soot are mixed with binder; layers stay luminous without heavy varnish.
Textiles are heat-set where needed; works on paper are dried flat and packed with acid-free tissue.
